Project Overview

The Department of Transportation Maintenance Headquarters needed 2 large underground storage tanks decommissioned, surrounding contaminated soil removed, and a new aboveground diesel storage tank and dispenser installed. In addition to the tanks, the buried piping system needed to be removed, various electronic components were to be reused if possible, and biodiesel fuel was to be conditioned and reused.

NW Contracting provided turn-key tank removal, remediation, and installation services.

The Problem

In addition to the underground tank removal and above ground tank installation, subsurface soil was known to be contaminated with petroleum. It was also discovered that the level of groundwater on site meant that significant groundwater remediation would be necessary. Because the site was a functional DOT maintenance location, temporary biodiesel service during construction was essential.

The Solution

NW Contracting was able to complete this turn-key project by utilizing the expertise and experience of several service teams. The remediation team and the fuel system team were able to work in tandem, along with professional geological services, to remove the old underground tanks, remediate an extensive area around them, and install a new, updated aboveground tank complete with a monitor, fuel management system, and dispenser.
